The City of Kea
The capital of Kea is Ioulida, located on the highest top of the island. This small town reflects the characteristics of a Greek island, with its narrow paved streets and the traditional colorful houses. There are no cars inside the town, therefore you can leave your car at the entrance of the town and continue on foot. You may even see some locals use donkeys in order to carry heavy products and materials throughout the small streets.
To the left side of the entrance you may find the Kastro [castle] area. This is the ancient part of town where you can see the old ruins of the Venetian wall and the remains of the acropolis. If you continue this road further down you will find yourselves in an old church built inside a cave. The sight is truly impressive as the breath taking view of the sea lies right below the church.

At the same area you can find the monastery of Panagia Kastriani, a wonderful monastery at the edge of a cliff that will impress you with its magnificent view of the sea and the neighboring islands. You may also visit the archaeological museum of Ioulida, where you can see a lot of items that were discovered all around the island.
When the night comes, there is no better place to be entertained. There are many cafes, bars and taverns where you can have a drink or taste the local delicacies and the always fresh fish. To the main square of the town there are often take place festivals and concerts, so take a look at the summer schedule and perhaps you can find something interesting while you are here. If you are visiting on August 15th, in this square a huge celebration will occur in honor of Virgin Mary, with music, food and dancing.
